It's hard to believe that Spring is here! We are excited to leave the cold weather behind and welcome warmer temperatures! Please continue to send in snowpants, gloves and hats.
This week, we talked about all the wonderful things that spring brings. The students were hard at work creating beautiful artwork as well as producing some really amazing writing about Spring.
Our word of the week is "he". This week we do not have a letter of the week. Please encourage your children to point out "he" during nightly reading. The students are doing a great job recognizing and reading our popcorn words from classroom books, poems and on the Osmo.
On Monday, we played classical music on the Smart board and drew pictures of whatever the music inspired us to draw. This was very relaxing and fun. The kids had a great time and their artwork was beautiful!!!
Today was World Water Day. We talked about ways that we can all help conserve water at home and school. Ask your kids how they are going to save water at home.

Kindergarten News
We had a great day yesterday full of many engaging activities. We have been taking apart and exploring an old television. The kids are very interested in using screwdrivers and looking at all the different parts inside the TV. We have some young engineers in the making!
Our letters of the week are "sh". We got creative with the sound that this makes and made up a song... it also helps keep us quiet in the halls!
Our word of the week is "she". The kids eagerly wrote sentences in their journals and did a great job. Their writing skills are developing so well.
Please continue to point out our weekly letters and words during nightly reading. It is very beneficial in helping to teach your child to read.
Please remember to send back the Snuggle Folders every Friday (senior students only). We pass each book on to other students so we really need them back by Friday.
In Math, we have been looking at coins and their value. We will continue to explore money in the weeks to come.
Yesterday we read a book about a naughty leprechaun. We will be making leprechaun traps on Thursday to bring home over the March Break. If you have any empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls that you are getting rid of, we would love to use them in the classroom.
With the wet weather fast approaching, please ensure that your child has a few extra pairs of socks as well as a full set of extra clothes (including underwear).

This Week in Kindergarten!
Another snow day did not stop us from learning and exploring in Kindergarten! On Monday, we looked at our word of the week "do" as well as the letter d. We buttered our special word in our weekly poem.
A large number of students were interested in writing sentences in their journals using the word "do". Their sentences were AMAZING! They are really working hard at sounding out unknown words and using the popcorn words to help them write sentences.
In Math, we are talking about collecting data by asking questions and then showing that data on graphs. We will continue to work on graphing this month. We are also continuing to explore and examine numbers (recognition, composition, decomposition).
Please ensure that your child has a spare change of clothes in the classroom as well as spare gloves. Last week we had lots of wet gloves, socks and knees!
