Reminders, Word and Letter of the Week
Thank you all for coming to our Christmas concert on Friday. The kids were so excited to sing for you! They did an amazing job and we were so proud of them.
On Wednesday, we will be having Pyjama Day. The students are welcome to come to school in their jammies.
Thank you so much for your donations toward our Christmas hampers. Many families will benefit this Christmas because of your kindness and generosity.
Our word of the week is "to" and our letter of the week is "o". Please point these out during your nightly reading. Today we also learned about syllables and how to clap them out using long words, short words and names. The kids had a lot of fun clapping the words out. We also looked at the alphabet and talked about vowels and consonants. We learned that every word has to have at least one vowel. Ask your child to sing the vowel song to you.
Here are some pictures from today.

A home for the holidays?
Spiky the fish needs a home for the holidays! All he needs is a small bowl or tank with fresh water, and to be fed a couple of pellets twice a day. He already has food, water conditioning liquid, and the jar that he came in from the pet store (although a slightly bigger bowl would be nice, it's not necessary). If you are able to care for him over the Christmas break please email me at anna.dodd@ocsb.ca to let me know!
Merci!

Letter and Word of the Week
This week we are focusing on the letter "y" and all the different sounds it makes. The students are having fun thinking of words with "y" in them.
Our word of the week is "my". We learned a song to help us remember how to spell "my". It is very catchy and will not leave your head once you hear it. I've even caught Mme Anna singing it on her lunch break!!! Ask your kids to sing it to you!
The students are so excited about Friday. They have been practising so much and are really looking forward to their big performance.
We are sending out one last push for hot cereal/oatmeal for our Christmas hampers. If you would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated.
Looking forward to seeing you on Friday! Here are a few more pictures from the week so far.

Christmas Hampers
December 1, 2015
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The Advent season has arrived and Christmas is just around the corner. Each of the classes at St. Gabriel School will be involved in our Advent project to help those in need. Each class, from Kindergarten through grade six, will contribute to allow us to prepare a “hamper” for 17 families from our adopted school.
Each student is being asked to bring in a specific item for the food hamper. If you are able, a donation of $2.00 for the family would also be most appreciated. Monies collected will go towards the purchase of a grocery store gift card for each family, so the family can purchase a turkey and fresh fruit and vegetables. New this year, we are also asking for donations of Canadian Tire money which will be used to purchase gifts for the families. We encourage the students to complete a chore at home to earn their own money, so that they experience the gift of giving.
Your child is invited to bring in hot cereal. We will be collecting the hamper items and money from Wednesday, December 3rd until Thursday, December 10th.
Please note we also welcome donations of hats and mittens to send to families in need in our school board.
Thank you for your generosity and support during the Advent Season.
God Bless,
St. Gabriel Catholic School Staff
New word and Letter of the week
This week, we are learning how to write the word "like" and focusing on the letter "l". Ask your kids to sing you the "like" song. It's very catchy and will sticky with you all day!!! It is sung to the tune of Frere Jaques.
We have been getting ready for the Advent season and we lit the first Advent candle yesterday. We spoke about the importance of Advent and waiting patiently for the birth of baby Jesus. Our promise this week is to be extra kind and caring to our friends and family.
