Week of May 27th - Important Field Trip Info

Today we decided to find all of our popcorn words from the year in our poem.  The children were all fully engaged and did a great job.  This week, we will not have a word or letter.  Instead, we will be reviewing the words up on our word wall.

We have received many permission forms for our two field trips  (The Bill Mason Center on June 6th and the splash pad on June 19th) but still do not have all of them.  If you have not sent yours in, please do so as soon as possible.  Many of you indicated that you wish to volunteer for the Bill Mason Center trip.  Everyone is welcome to come but must send in a copy of their vulnerable sector check prior to the field trip. This also applies for the splash pad field trip.  We will be sending a note home this week if you have indicated that you want to join us on June 6th.  You must provide your own transportation to the Bill Mason Center. A big thank you to all who are willing to help out with these field trips.

On Friday, May 31st and Tuesday, June 4th, the Grade 6 students will be selling popsicles to offset the cost of their year end trip.  Popsicles are $1.00 each.  They are nut free and gluten free.

A note was sent home today regarding our Father's Day celebration.  We hope you can join us on Thursday, June 13th. If you are unable to attend but would like to send a Grandpa, brother, uncle etc, please feel free to do so.

Week of May 21st

It has been so nice to enjoy the warmer weather and the sun!!!  The students are having a blast during our outdoor play with the new games painted on the ground.  They came back to school with something different to play with on the pavement!  As the weather continues to get warmer out, please dress your child in layers since it's still a bit chilly in the mornings.  If you are sending your child with sunscreen, please ensure that it is not the aerosol type as it makes the floors extremely slippery.  Your child must be able to put the sunscreen on independently before going out.

Today we finally looked at our first VIP - Mr. Chan (Leo's dad).  The kids had great ideas of what Mr. Chan did at his work.  They really had fun looking at his picture and analyzing all the things on his desk, the pictures hanging up around him and his 2 computers.  They thought Mr. Chan was a real hard worker!  We are really excited to see who is next on our list of VIPs!

This week we do not have a word or letter of the week.  We have continued to add words and writing to our artwork using phonetic spelling.  Please review letters and sounds with your child.

Permission forms were sent home this week for the Bill Mason Centre field trip on June 6th as well as the splash pad outing on June 19th.  Please send the forms back at your earliest convenience.  If you are planning on volunteering, you MUST have a vulnerable sector check as indicated on the permission form.  We will let you know in the near future if your name was drawn from the hat to be a volunteer.  Thank you to all who are willing to come on this filed trip!

This year, we will be inviting the dads to come for a picnic to celebrate Father's Day.  We are still deciding on a date but as soon as we have more information, a note will be sent home.  We hope to see all the dads join us on this special day!

Week of May 13th

We hope all you lovely moms had a wonderful Mother's Day.  Your special video message was sent on Saturday from my hotmail account.  It is safe to open!  Please let me know if you did not receive an email from me or if you can not open it.

We are so happy to have Mrs. T back today.  The kids were so excited to see her!  She was truly missed by all!

Our word of the week is "at".  The kids counted how many "at"s they could find in their library books this morning.  Instead of having a letter this week, we will be focusing on the "at" family.  This means we will be thinking of and writing words that rhyme with at.  If you want a fun game to play at home, you can continue to think of rhyming words and then clap out the syllables.

Friday May 17th is a PD day so the children will not be at school.  Monday is also a day off due to the holiday.  We hope you enjoy your extra  long weekend!

Week of May 6th

Today was an exciting day!  We released our beautiful butterflies into the wild.  The children who wanted to hold them had a chance to and they were so amazed!  It was so neat to see them flutter away into the sky.

Our word of the week is a VERY important one..."mom".  We learned that this word is spelled the same way both forwards and backwards.  We also reviewed the sound that an "m" makes.  Please continue to practice letter recognition and sound association.

On Saturday evening, I will be sending all the moms an email with a very special attachment.  Please let me know if you can not open it. The email will come from andrea.rocco@ocsb.ca.
