Week of May 29th

It's hard to believe that we are in our last week of May!! Where has the time gone?  We continue to be amazed and so proud of each child's growth this year.  We are going to be sad to see our sk students move to Grade 1.

Our letter of the week is "f" and our word is "of".  We talked about words that start with "f" or have an "f" in it.  The kids had great examples and all were appropriate! The adults were a bit nervous asking for a list of f words!

We have been very lucky with our guest speakers over the past week.  Friday we had a visit from Constable Bradley to talk about safety and what police officers do.  The kids were very engaged and loved asking him questions.

Today we had a firefighter in to speak about fire prevention and fire safety.  The kids were given some goodies which came home in their mailbags tonight.

We are in the process of planning a special celebration for our dads.  Last year it was all about the moms so this year it's time to spoil the dads!!! More details to come soon.

Pictures from the Week

We had a great surprise waiting for us this week....2 butterflies were fluttering in the tank on Tuesday morning! The kids were so excited to see them. This sparked great ideas for pictures and writing about butterflies.  We have amazing writing samples and artwork about the life cycle of a butterfly hanging in the classroom.  We will be releasing the butterflies tomorrow so they can fly free!

We read a book called "The Most Magnificent Thing" which taught us that when things aren't working out they way we want them to, we never quit.  The kids enjoyed making their own most magnificent things such as purses, maps, binoculars, pouches etc.  They really used their imagination to while making their creations!

The Week of May 15

We hope all the moms had a great day yesterday. Please write me a note if you did not get your special email.

Our word of the week is "see".  We do not have a particular letter this week but will continue to review all the letters and their sounds.

Today we learned about birds and how they make nests.  The kids enjoyed creating their own nest and writing all about birds.

Just a quick reminder that Wednesday is library so please ensure that the books come back in advance.

With the warm weather on it's way, please send in plenty of fluids to keep your child hydrated.  Also, if you are sending in sunscreen, ensure that it is not the spray type.  This makes the floors very slippery and dangerous.

Week of May 8

This week we will be busy getting things ready for the most important lady in our lives... our mom!!! We are in the process of making special Mother's Day gifts that we hope you moms will love.  On Mother's Day, you will be receiving an email from me (Andrea Rocco) with your child's name as the subject.  Please send me an email letting me know that you were able to open it.  If you are unable to open the attachment, send me an email back letting me know and I will resend it to you.

Our letter of the week is "m" and our word of the week is "mom".  The sk students wrote about their love for mom today in their journals! It was so cute!

On Thursday, the Grade 6 students are selling freezies.  Please see the flyer attached for more info.

Happy May!

It's hard to believe that May is here! Today the kids had a chance to get outside for recess as the rain seemed to pause for us!  They are all eager to ditch their coats and hats for shorts and t-shirts.

Our letters of the week are "pl" and our word is "play".  The sk students had no problem writing about what they like to play with.  They are doing such a great job sounding out unknown words.  Please continue to practise letter and sound recognition at home.  It is very beneficial for them.

Today we are going to preview the books at the Book Fair.  We will be going back on Wednesday afternoon to purchase books.  If you would like your child to buy some books, please send money in a ziplock bag with their name on it and the amount.  You can send it in their mailbag on Wednesday.

On Friday, we will be having Open House at the school from 8 am-9 am.  Each family is asked to send in 6 nut-free muffins for the school-wide muffin breakfast.  Drinks will be provided by the school.

*****Please come visit our classroom (Rm 138) for a special surprise that the children have been working on.  They are so excited to show off their work to everyone.
